Kitchen Case Study 5

Units: Handmade Natural American Oak
Worktops: Flamed Nero Assoluto Granite

With a fair proportion of time necessarily spent on business interests in Hong Kong, it was important to streamline the kitchen area in the main family home just outside one of the main towns in Kent. The kitchen was cramped, as were the small adjoining breakfast and utility rooms, while the double garage was larger than was needed. The removal of partition walls and a reduction in the size of the garage resulted in a space which could be designed to suit the lifestyle of this busy family.

A comprehensive range of cooking and cooling appliances was required – a large oven for dinner parties, a medium size for every day use, and a small combi-oven for snacks. Two coolers provide the appropriate storage conditions for a large wine collection and Miele was selected for all these and the dishwashing and laundry equipment too. A bespoke ceiling extractor was also included.

An angled peninsular for the gas hob, and the use of varied depths helped to create interest and individuality in what would otherwise have been a long, straight galley style kitchen area. While the furniture is traditionally handmade, the styling is modern and classic.
